Can you pin more than 3 chats on WhatsApp Web? The limit, and what to do instead

Published

No. WhatsApp allows only three pins. Its Help Center says pin chat "allows you to pin up to three chats to the top of your chats list", and that page lists the same feature for Android, iPhone, Web, Windows and Mac. A fourth pin on web.whatsapp.com won't stick until you unpin one of the three.

How to pin a chat on WhatsApp Web

On web.whatsapp.com, click the chat you want to pin, open its menu (the down arrow), click Pin, then choose how long you want the pin to last. Pinned chats stay at the top of the list until you unpin them: open the same menu and click Unpin.

There is no setting to raise the limit

WhatsApp has no option for a fourth pin. Some articles point to browser extensions that claim "unlimited pins". Those change what your browser shows; they don't change the three-pin limit on your account.

Picking the three

Pin chats you open many times a day that would otherwise sink under group traffic: one person, one work chat, one household group. A chat you need only on a certain day, like a delivery or a booking, suits a reminder better, because a pin stays after the job is done.

Keeping the other chats close

Twenty pinned chats would still be a long list to scan. Grouping works better:

  • WhatsApp's own Lists. WhatsApp's Help Center calls Lists "customizable filters that can help you keep your chats organized" and documents them for Android and iPhone. Your WhatsApp Web may show a filter row above the chats; which filters appear depends on your account.
  • Folders in the browser. On WhatsApp Web in Chrome, WA Folders (I build it) adds folder tabs such as Family, Work or Clients above the chat list, with unread, reply and question markers. Click a tab and the list narrows to those chats. It also searches the messages it has seen and exports a chat to HTML, CSV, Markdown or JSON. Folders stay in Chrome on your computer and don't appear on your phone.

Keep your three pins for the chats you open all day, and put the rest that matter in a folder or a list.
